I love receiving gifts, and let’s face it…who on earth doesn’t. Getting flowers from my husband always makes me feel special. The cards I get from the kids on my birthday and the holidays are precious to me. Still, there is one gift I look forward to more than any other. I have an aunt who I have always been very close to and who sends me a gift basket every year for Christmas. In over ten years of receiving gift baskets from her, I have never had the same basket twice and I have never felt anything less than sheer joy over what she sends. I have had gourmet gift baskets of meats, cheeses and crackers, chocolate gift baskets, wine gift baskets, home spa products baskets and many others. I guess I just really enjoy the fact that it’s so many gifts in one. There’s something incredibly special about opening a gift and being presented with a wonderful array of products to choose from.

No matter what the theme is, I feel like a kid in a candy store. Each year, the hardest thing for me to decide is what to try first. Over the years, I have come to look forward to and enjoy the gift baskets more than any other gift I receive. Last Christmas, my aunt ordered the basket late and it arrived a few days after the holiday. Despite all the wonderful gifts I received from friends and family, I really missed having a gift basket. It felt as though something I enjoyed so much for so long was absent. When it finally arrived, it was like Christmas all over again for me. Since my aunt started sending me gift baskets over a decade ago, I have sent her one each year as well. We always talk after the holidays about what we enjoyed the most. I think we’re both addicted to them. In recent years, I started sending them to other friends and family. Never before have I felt so sure that my gifts were well received as I do now.

Everyone seems to love them and I get a lot praise over my choices. I think people enjoy sampling items that they might not think to buy or that are unavailable is a real treat. Personally, one of my all time-favorites was a selection of Swiss chocolates that were better than anything I’d ever tasted here in the States. I still think that if I had never tasted them, I wouldn’t know just how delicious chocolate could be. The next time you are wondering what to send for a gift, I recommend a gift basket. You’ll be surprised at how much it will be appreciated and enjoyed.

Gift Basket Idea for Senior Citizens

Evidence for the importance of fruit and vegetable intake to health and quality of life with aging is widely recognized. Consuming fruits and vegetables can reduce an individual’s risk of cardiovascular disease and many cancers.

Furthermore, fruits and vegetables are important components of diets for the secondary prevention of diabetes and hypertension. Of course, with diabetes, you want to use the low glycemic fruits. The highest sugar fruits are melons. Diets rich in nutrients and phytochemicals found in fruits and vegetables have also been associated with delay or decreased risk of conditions associated with aging such as cataracts, diverticulosis , degeneration in neurological and cognitive performance, decline in bone mass, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Diets that are high in fruits and vegetables lower an individual’s risk of chronic disease and contribute to healthy aging. Homebound seniors often have low intake of fruits and vegetables and limited access to fruits and vegetables with the most protective nutrients and phytochemicals.

Wouldn’t it be a great idea to send someone you know who is a Senior Citizen or someone you know in your community that would benefit from a nice, juicy fruit gift basket?

Instead of giving a gift that your friend over 62 may never use, give the gift of a fruit and vegetable gift basket. When choosing a gift basket, make sure the fruits and vegetables are firm. What you don’t want to happen is they receive the fruit and vegetable basket with overripe fruit and vegetables.

Once a year, our home care agency sends a Thanksgiving gift Basket and Christmas gift basket to one of our patients who can really benefit from receiving one of these gift baskets. It not only makes them feel special, but they get a nutrition meal.

If you don’t know what to give your friend for the holidays, consider a fruit and vegetable gift basket.

Home delivery of fruits and vegetables is an effective way to increase fruit and vegetable intake in homebound seniors.

Create A Gift Basket For A Cat Lover!

The choice of what gift to give your family and friends can often be a difficult one. One of the best gifts that you can give is a themed gift basket. A gift basket is that one present that comes in many shapes, themes and of course price ranges. A gift basket can also be a new arrival gift idea for that family pet.

The diversity of gift baskets is never-ending. You can give a cat gourmet food gift basket (make sure they are good quality products to ensure the feline doesn t reject the food!) or a bath and grooming necessities gift basket. In fact the list is endless.

Here is a simple basket that you can easily create yourself for that special Cat Lover .

Pick a basket style. I like to use either a bucket (can be used to store grooming products in) or a cat basket. There are a lot of choices on the market so choose between one with two side handles or without handles. A cat likes to feel snug in their environment so a closed in fabric padded style basket will also be well received. Make certain the basket is large enough to hold the gifts you have selected and of course if it is intended for the cat to sleep in it, large enough to accommodate that special Feline.

Choose a color that complements the cat lover’s home decor. If in doubt, choose a neutral color by selecting a natural wicker basket.

Next select a variety of items that have a cat theme. When selecting the gifts for the cat lover choose items with cat themes such as cat calendars, coffee mugs, computer mouse pads, T-shirts, note cards, stationery, cat magazines, include fiction and nonfiction books and picture frames.

Select some grooming brushes and cat toys for their cat.

If you are on a budget try a small basket and include:

A photo frame, a disposable camera to take some memorable moments between the recipient and their special feline, a photo album, along with a voucher for photo finishing.

When you are finished choosing the gifts and have selected the basket, wrap the completed Gift Basket with cellophane paper and a nice ribbon to give it a finishing touch. Use shredded paper inside the basket to hold the goodies in place. Tie a humorous gift tag with a message for that added touch.

The Accidental Gift Basket

My husband and I recently had a baby, and family and friends have been dropping by regularly to visit and see our new addition. We live near my family, so they’ve been over almost every day while my husband’s family is spread out all over the United States. Since his family can’t exactly drop by for obvious reasons, we’ve gotten a lot of cards, letters and gifts in the mail. One day the doorbell to our apartment rang and I opened it to find a delivery person with a gift basket. After thanking him, I took the basket and placed it on the table with all the cards and letters we received in the mail that day. I thought I would wait until my husband got home from work so we could open them together.

As I looked at the gift basket, I noticed it was filled with European chocolates. I briefly thought that was an odd choice and was going to look at who sent it when my newborn awoke and let me know it was time for the bottle. After feeding her and putting her back to sleep, I had a bit of a sweet tooth so I decided to open the gift basket and have a chocolate. It was delicious. One chocolate turned to two and two quickly turned to four and before I knew it, I had eaten almost half the basket. This was no small feat as there were a lot of chocolates. I guess I wasn’t quite ready to give up the eating habits I had before the baby was born. As I was enjoying the chocolates, my husband came home and I mentioned that whoever in his family that sent the gift basket really knew what they were doing.

I thought it a bit odd at first (expecting a baby gift basket, if anything) but once I bit into the first chocolate, I knew that whoever had sent this realized just how much I needed a quality chocolate break from the stress of all that comes with having your first baby. This made me remember that I forgot to check the card, so I asked my husband to look since he was up. As it turns out, this gift basket I had halfway devoured was intended for our next door neighbor. It was delivered to us by accident. Here I am, relaxing on the couch with a chocolate in my hand when my husband breaks the news to me. With my chocolate filled mouth wide open, I looked at him so seriously as if to say, “What are we going to do?” He started laughing, which made me start laughing as I now saw the humor in the situation. We ordered a new basket to be delivered the next day for our neighbor and also went by to explain what had happened.

We all had a good laugh over it and I was relieved since I had never formally met our neighbor and didn’t know what to expect. I’m actually quite glad that this happened. I got to meet our neighbor and learned a valuable lesson about checking the card before you open the gift. I also know what I will send my friends and family after they welcome a new addition. I’m sending chocolate.

Gift Basket Gets the Attention

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, our family found itself in an odd situation. My husband had recently been promoted within his company, which resulted in our moving to a new city. We made the move in mid-November, which made planning for Thanksgiving virtually impossible. There was so much to do in regard to closing on a new home, selling our old home, the move itself and getting settled that we decided to have a simple Thanksgiving instead of the feast we normally prepare. The day before thanksgiving, with boxes still unpacked and the kids trying to adjust to the new surroundings, we received a gift basket from my husband’s coworkers whom he had worked with for several years.

The basket itself was huge, containing gourmet food products from around the world. Both my husband and I were humbled and thankful for this gesture as we marveled at how big the basket was. Still, we placed it on top of the refrigerator and went right back to work trying to get things in order. The next day, for the first time ever, we found ourselves enjoying Thanksgiving over a pizza. Needless to say, it was a little depressing for everyone. After we ate, we sat at the table and milled over what still needed to accomplished to get settled in. We were all tired, and the feeling of family closeness that usually accompanies Thanksgiving Day was replaced by a general malaise.

My husband remembered the gift basket we had been sent and brought it to the table. We opened it together and started sampling all the wonderful fruits, meats, cheeses and desserts it contained. Pretty soon, we were all talking and laughing about Thanksgivings past and our hopes for the future. I think we sat at the table together as a family longer than we ever had previously. Having all this great food to try out seemed to live everyone’s spirits and remind us that we were still a family and that even a complicated move couldn’t stop us from enjoying the holiday together. I am grateful for that gift basket, and for a Thanksgiving I’ll always cherish.
